Abstract
THE REPORT, WHICH IS INTENDED TO SERVE AS A BASIS FOR COMPARISONS OF POLICE PERFORMANCE FROM YEAR TO YEAR, OPENS WITH SUMMARIES OF THE BACKGROUNDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE DIVISION'S CHIEF OFFICIALS. STATISTICS FOLLOW ON POLICE DIVISION EXPENDITURES, FEDERAL ACTION AND OTHER GRANTS, NUMBERS AND ASSIGNMENT OF PERSONNEL, POLICE VEHICLE USE, ASSAULTS OF POLICE OFFICERS, REPORTED CRIMES, TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS, EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS WITHIN THE DIVISION, SERVICE REQUESTS ANSWERED, RESIGNATIONS, RETIREMENTS, DISMISSALS, AND DEATHS. CRIME STATISTICS INCLUDE BREAKDOWNS OF MAJOR OFFENSES (MURDER, RAPE, ROBBERY, ASSAULT, BURGLARY, LARCENY, MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT); COMPARISONS WITH DATA FOR 1972 THROUGH 1975; COMPARISONS OF ADULT ARRESTS BY RACE, AGE, AND SEX; AND DATA ON JUVENILE ARRESTS. ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE REDUCTION OF POLICE DIVISION MANPOWER FROM 567 IN DECEMBER 1975 TO 537 IN DECEMBER 1976; TO THE 4.5 PERCENT REDUCTION IN THE NUMBER OF POLICE CARS ASSIGNED TO CITIZENS' REQUESTS FOR POLICE SERVICE TO A TOTAL OF 208,715 DISPATCHES FOR 1976; AND TO THE 6 PERCENT REDUCTION IN MAJOR CRIMES REPORTED IN OMAHA FOR 1976. A ROSTER OF OMAHA POLICE OFFICERS IS INCLUDED.
