DESCRIPTION AND ASSESSMENT OF AN 18 MONTH DEMONSTRATION PROJECT FOR THE REHABILITATION OF FEMALE EX-OFFENDERS FROM THE FEDERAL REFORMATORY FOR WOMEN IN ALDERSON (WV).
Abstract
THE PROJECT WAS UNDERTAKEN TO PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL RESOURCES IN THE REHABILITATION OF PARTICIPANTS BOTH DURING AND AFTER INCARCERATION AND TO INVOLVE CITIZENS IN THE CORRECTIONAL REHABILITATION PROCESS. DATA WERE GATHERED FROM FOUR SOURCES - MONTHLY FIELD COORDINATOR REPORTS, PROGRAM ASSESSMENT FORMS, PERSONAL INTERVIEWS WITH THOSE INVOLVED IN THE PROGRAM, AND WRITTEN AND PERSONAL INTERVIEWS WITH NON-PARTICIPANTS. DATA COLLECTED WAS COMPILED TO SERVE AS DESCRIPTIVE INDICATORS OF PROBLEMS DEALT WITH, THE SCOPE OF THE WORK OF FIELD COORDINATORS AND VOLUNTEERS, CENTRAL STAFF ACTIVITIES, AND RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS OF THE PROGRAM. THE EVALUATORS CONCLUDED THAT THE ONE KEY IN AMERICA PROGRAM EFFECTIVELY DEMONSTRATED THAT THE REHABILITATION OF THE FEMALE EX-OFFENDER CAN BE ACHIEVED THROUGH COORDINATED INVOLVEMENT OF PRIVATE CITIZENS IN THE CORRECTIONAL REHABILITATION PROCESS.
