RESULTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FROM A QUESTIONNAIRE COMPLETED BY DEPARTMENTS IN SIXTEEN CITIES ON THE EXTENT, CHARACTER, AND RESULTS OF THEIR USE OF ONE-MAN CAR PATROLS.
Abstract
THE REPORT INCLUDES STATEMENTS OF EACH QUESTION ON THE QUESTIONNAIRE WITH A SUMMARY OF THE RESPONSES TO EACH ONE. A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE ARGUMENTS PRO AND CON REGARDING THE USE OF THE ONE-MAN CAR ARE PRESENTED. THE SURVEYING ORGANIZATION RECOMMENDS THAT THE ST. LOUIS POLICE DEPARTMENT, FOR WHOM THE STUDY WAS CONDUCTED, GIVE A THOROUGH TRIAL TO ONE-MAN CARS IN THE RESIDENTIAL AREAS AND DURING QUIET HOURS ELSEWHERE. EMPHASIS IS GIVEN TO THE NEED FOR PROPER PROMOTION OF THE PROGRAM, EFFECTIVE RADIO EQUIPMENT, AND CAREFUL SELECTION AND TRAINING OF THE PERSONNEL WHO WILL BE INVOLVED.
