A DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW COMPUTERIZED BOOKING SYSTEM, INCLUDING APPLICATIONS OF THE SYSTEM, BOOKING PROCEDURES, ADVANTAGES OF THE SYSTEM, TYPES OF INFORMATION ENTERED IN THE SYSTEM, AND AVAILABLE COMPUTER-GENERATED REPORTS.
Abstract
THE ONLINE BOOKING SYSTEM USED BY THE NEW ORLEANS POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS SET UP WITH TWO MAJOR GOALS: TO IMPROVE THE BOOKING PROCESS, AND TO TAKE THE FIRST STEP IN CREATING AN AUTOMATED CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION SYSTEM THAT WOULD SERVE THE ENTIRE NEW ORLEANS METROPOLITAN REGION, MAINTAINING COMPUTER FILES ON PERSONS FROM THE TIME OF THEIR ARREST TO THE TIME OF ADJUDICATION. ADVANTAGES OF THE SUSTEM, SUCH AS REDUCED BOOKING TIME, LARGE INCREASES IN WARRANTS CLEARED AT THE TIME OF BOOKING, AUTOMATIC COMPUTER SEARCHES OF 'WANTED' FILES AT THE TIME OF BOOKING, AND INCREASED CATEGORIES OF INFORMATION ENTERED IN FILES ARE DISCUSSED. A DESCRIPTION OF THE ENTIRE BOOKING PROCESS, WITH SAMPLE COMPUTER DISPLAYS IS PROVIDED AS WELL. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
