Abstract
The types of cases handled by the magistrates' court, the juvenile court, and the crown courts and the levels of the appellate system are outlined. The concept of the open courtroom, the steps involved in criminal cases, and the philosophies underlying the justice system are also discussed. Types of factors involved in mitigation in common offenses of dishonesty and common violent offenses are listed. The role of the jury, the appellate courts, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the Magistrates' courts, and the High Court of Justice are explained.
