DESCRIBES HAWORTH, NEW JERSEY POLICE DEPARTMENT'S PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES DAILY TELEPHONE CONTACT FOR ELDERLY CITIZENS WHO LIVE ALONE.
Abstract
THE FIRST REQUISITE OF THIS PROGRAM IS THAT THE INDIVIDUAL MUST LIVE ALONE. A CITIZEN PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM MUST CALL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT BY 10:00 A.M. EACH DAY USING A SPECIAL TELEPHONE NUMBER. IF A CALL IS NOT RECEIVED BY THIS TIME, THE POLICE OFFICER CALLS THE PARTICIPANT. IF THERE IS NO ANSWER, A PATROL CAR IS DISPATCHED TO THE HOME TO SEE IF EVERYTHING IS ALL RIGHT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
