SEVERAL MODELS BASED ON COMPUTER METHODS FOR OPTIMIZING THE EFFICIENT GEOGRAPHIC DISTRIBUTION OF POLICE PATROL MANPOWER.
Abstract
THE STATISTICAL EQUATION FOR THE BASIC PATROL MODEL IS OUTLINED. A MATHEMATICAL ADJUSTMENT TO EQUALIZE BEAT WORKLOADS IS PROVIDED, AS WELL AS OTHER DEVICES FOR ADJUSTING THE MODEL TO PATROL CONSTRAINTS. THE RESULTS OF A PRELIMINARY TEST OF THE BASIC MODEL AND SOME OF ITS VARIATIONS IN ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA, ARE REPORTED. THE PRIMARY ADVANTAGES OF THE MODELS ARE MINIMIZATION OF RESPONSE DISTANCES AND AN INCREASE IN THE TIME AVAILABLE FOR PREVENTIVE PATROLS.
