BACKGROUND AND RESULTS OF A CALIFORNIA POLICE DEPARTMENT'S EXPERIENCE WITH .45 CALIBER PISTOLS.
Abstract
CASE HISTORIES SHOW THAT A .38 CALIBER PISTOL DOES NOT SAFELY AND EFFECTIVELY DISABLE AN ARMED SUSPECT. THE HIGHER IMPACT OF A .45 DOES STOP A SUSPECT WITH A MINIMUM NUMBER OF SHOTS AND FEWER ERRANT BULLETS. THE TORRANCE PLAN OF OPTIONAL FIELD USE OF THE .45 CALIBER SEMIAUTOMATIC PISTOL AFTER TRAINING HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL.
