EVALUATION OF A PROGRAM IN WHICH POLICE TAUGHT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ABOUT POLICE FUNCTIONS, FUNCTIONS, CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, NARCOTICS, AND COURTS.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM INCLUDED USE OF THE CONFERENCE AND LECTURE METHOD OF CLASSROOM PRESENTATION, GUEST SPEAKERS, MOVIES, AND FIELD TRIPS. TRIPS WERE TO THE SHERIFF'S FACILITY AND MEN'S JAIL, AND TO THE SUPERIOR COURT WHERE A TRIAL WAS IN SESSION. SEVERAL STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN A MOCK TRIAL. IT WAS FELT THERE WAS AN OVERALL INCREASE IN POSITIVE OR FAVORABLE ATTITUDES ABOUT THE POLICE, AUTHORITY FIGURES, AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN GENERAL.
