A DESCRIPTION OF FIELD TRAINING PROCEDURES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, WITH SAMPLE FORMS TO BE USED DURING THE TRAINING PROCESS AND INSTRUCTIONS ON THEIR USE.
Abstract
SUCH TOPICS AS THE DEFINITION AND PURPOSES OF FIELD TRAINING, IMPORTANT FACTORS IN THE FIELD TRAINING PROGRAM, RESPONSIBILITY OF THE UNIT COMMANDER, RESPONSIBILITY OF THE FIELD TRAINING OFFICER, AND THE DISPOSITION OF THE COMPLETED FORMS ARE DISCUSSED. FORMS INCLUDED IN THE REPORT ARE THE FIELD TRAINING OFFICER (FTO) WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORT, THE FTO EVALUATION REPORT, THE FIELD TRAINING RECORD, AND THE FTO INSTRUCTION GUIDE. THIS GUIDE IS A LISTING OF BASIC POLICE RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS, AND PROCEDURES THAT EACH ERCRUIT SHOULD KNOW AND BE ABLE TO PERFORM WITH AN ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF SKILL. THE GUIDE POSES NUMEROUS COMMON POLICE ACTIVITIES AND PROVIDES A METHOD OF QUALITATIVELY EVALUATING THE SITUATIONS WHICH THE RECRUIT EXPERIENCES AND HIS REACTION TO THEM. BOTH THE FIELD TRAINING RECORD AND THE FTO INSTRUCTION GUIDE MUST BE FORWARDED TO THE BOARD ON POLICE STANDARDS AND TRAINING UPON COMPLETION AS PART OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAINING CERTIFICATION.
