This desk manual, prepared for use by the Oregon Department of Corrections chaplains and administrators, is designed to provide background information on religions having inmate followers in the State.
Abstract
The information recognizes degrees and varieties of expression, worship, and practice in every religious faith, and efforts were made to obtain input from authorized representatives of each faith. The manual covers Buddhism, the Roman Catholic Church, the Church of Christ, (Christian Science), the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons), Islam, Jehovah's Witnesses, Judaism, Native American religious faith, Protestants, Seventh-Day Adventists, Sikhs, and the Worldwide Church of God. Entries for each religion contain information on history and theology, holy days, worship procedures, holy books, diet, and practitioners. The manual identifies minimum requirements of each religion for offenders in prison.
