THIS ANNUAL REPORT OF THE JUDICIAL CONFERENCE OF OREGON PROVIDES INFORMATION ON JUDICIAL PERSONNEL, THE COURT STRUCTURE OF OREGON, AND THE ACTIVITIES OF THE JUDICIAL CONFERENCE AND ITS SIXTEEN STANDING COMMITTEES.
Abstract
A MAJOR EFFORT OF THE CONFERENCE AND OF THE INDIVIDUAL COURTS AND JUDGES DURING 1974 WAS TO DEAL EFFECTIVELY WITH THE CONSTANTLY GROWING NUMBER OF CASES COMING TO THE COURTS. THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE TWO JUDICIAL CONFERENCE MEETINGS OF 1974 ARE OUTLINED. THE ACTIVITIES OF THE STANDING COMMITTEES OF THE CONFERENCE ARE ALSO SUMMARIZED; THESE COMMITTEES WORK ON SUCH AREAS AS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A BENCH BOOK, CALENDARING, COURT FACILITIES, CRIMINAL LAW AND PROCEDURE, ELECTRONIC DATA PROCESSING, JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATION, JUDICIAL CONDUCT, JUDICIAL EDUCATION, LEGISLATION, MINOR COURTS, PROBATE LAW, PROCEDURE AND PRACTICE, PUBLIC RELATIONS, COURT RECORDS, STATISTICS, AND JURY INSTRUCTIONS. THE DUTIES AND JURISDICTION OF EACH COURT LEVEL ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED. ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT ARE THE TEXT OF THE OREGON LAW AUTHORIZING FORMATION OF THE JUDICIAL CONFERENCE AND THE TEXT OF THE BY-LAWS OF THE JUDICIAL CONFERENCE.
