Abstract
This preliminary report presented annual crime data from the year 2000 from various law enforcement agencies in the State of Oregon and divided into three sections. The first section, Report of Criminal Offenses and Arrests presented data on offenses and arrests submitted by municipal police departments, county sheriff’s offices, the Oregon State Police, and the Oregon Liquor Control Commission for both 1999 and 2000. Crime in Oregon increased 0.8 percent overall during 2000 when compared to 1999. Crime increased in 20 of the 36 counties in Oregon. The counties of Clackamas, Lane, Marion, Multnomah and Washington represented 59.7 percent of the State’s population. These counties reported 61.3 percent of the total crime in Oregon and 65 percent of the total crimes against persons. The second section, Oregon Bias Crime Statistics Summary presented data on crimes motivated by prejudice. The number of bias crimes reported for 2000 increased 1.5 percent from the number reported for 1999. The third and final section, Domestic Disturbance Reporting Summary presented data on incidents arising out of domestic disturbances. The data presented results from 173 reporting agencies covering 99.4 percent of Oregon’s population for 2000. Since this is a preliminary report, the data for 2000 may be subject to change when the final 2000 Annual Report is published.
