OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES OF A PROJECT TO DEVELOP MODEL PROGRAMS FOR THE INSERVICE TRAINING OF CHILD CARE WORKERS IN THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY.
Abstract
TWO TRAINING MODELS WERE ESTABLISHED - AN EXTENDED MODEL AND A CONCENTRATED MODEL. THE EXTENDED MODEL FOLLOWS THE LINES ESTABLISHED FOR COURSES OFFERED AT THE EXTENSION DIVISION OF SOCIAL WELFARE, A DIVISION OF RUTGERS - THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW JERSEY. IN THIS MODEL, STUDENTS ATTENDED A TWO HOUR CLASS ONCE EACH WEEK FOR TWO REGULAR COLLEGE SEMESTERS. UPON COMPLETION OF THIS TRAINING, STUDENTS RECEIVED A NON-CREDIT CERTIFICATE OF COURSE COMPLETION FROM THE UNIVERSITY. THIS DOCUMENT DEALS WITH THE PARTICULARS OF THIS PROJECT AND COVERS TOPICS SUCH AS STAFFING, SELECTION AND DESCRIPTION OF TRAINEE GROUPS, TRAINING SITES, COURSES, AND AN EVALUATION OF THE ESTABLISHED TRAINING MODELS. THE EVALUATION WAS PATTERNED AFTER A BEFORE-AFTER DESIGN AND CONSISTED BASICALLY OF ADMINISTERING AN IDENTICAL QUESTIONNAIRE AT THE BEGINNING AND AT THE END OF THE COURSES AND MEASURING THE CHANGES THAT HAD OCCURRED. EVALUATION RESULTS ARE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL. A TEACHER'S GUIDE TO THE CURRICULA AS PRESENTED IN BOTH THE EXTENDED AND CONCENTRATED PROGRAMS, AND THE COMPLETE CURRICULA DEVELOPED, ARE PROVIDED IN THE APPENDIX. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
