Abstract
The first group of articles attempts to clarify the organized crime situation in West Germany. The authors emphasize the need for greater awareness of the forms of organized crime and for more accurate statistics. A second group of articles focuses on ways to meet the threat of organized crime. Specific steps to combat organized crime in Germany's Laender or States and cities include: seizure of illegal benefits by the government; police undercover operations; and improved witness protection programs. One article focuses on slave trade from Thailand as a specific form of organized crime. The final article compares the organized crime situation which formerly existed in the United States to the current threat Europe faces. The speaker, an FBI agent, emphasizes that European cooperation in investigative techniques and the gathering of information is the only way to meet the threat of the coming years.
