Abstract
ORGANIZED CRIME CHARACTERISTICS ARE IDENTIFIED AS STRUCTURE, PROFIT CONTINUITY, MONOPOLISTIC TENDENCIES, AND RELATIVE IMMUNITY FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT EFFORTS. THE IMPACT OF ORGANIZED CRIME IS EVIDENT IN ECONOMIC EFFECTS (SMALL, CONTINUING PROFITS), THE CORRUPTION OF PUBLIC OFFICIALS, AND STREET CRIME. THE PRIMARY ACTIVITIES OF ORGANIZED CRIME INCLUDE GAMBLING, LOAN SHARKING, NARCOTICS, AND PROSTITUTION.
