TWO PRINCIPLES ARE BASIC TO REDUCING SHRINKAGE (INTERNAL THEFT, SHOPLIFTING, PAPERWORK ERRORS) IN RETAIL CHAIN OPERATIONS - PROPER ORGANIZATION AND EFFECTIVE GUIDELINES TO CONTROL EMPLOYEE CONDUCT AND JOB PERFORMANCE.
Abstract
TO MORE EFFECTIVELY DIRECT THE ACTIVITIES OF THE CORPORATION TO A MORE PRODUCTIVE LEVEL, AND SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCE LOSSES THROUGH SHRINKAGE, CERTAIN MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS SHOULD BE PLACED UNDER THE DIRECTION OF A CORPORATE LEVEL OFFICER. THIS EXECUTIVE SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE LONG RANGE PLANNING AND SUPERVISION OF THE DEPARTMENTS OF LOSS PREVENTION, PERSONNEL, ASSOCIATE TRAINING, CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND THE INVESTIGATION OF INTERNAL THEFT. THE COMMUNICATION OF METHODS OF SHORTAGE CONTROL THROUGHOUT THE CHAIN, BY MEANS OF WELL-PLANNED AND WRITTEN POLICIES AND PROCEDURES, WILL ALSO ENSURE THAT BUSINESS IS CONDUCTED AT ALL BRANCH STORES IN THE DESIRED MANNER.
