HOW THE PAROLE OFFICER'S CONCEPTION OF THE PAROLEE, VIEW OF THE PAROLE PURPOSE, AND BELIEF IN THE METHOD OF RULE ENFORCEMENT, ALL RELATE TO HIS JOB ACTIVITIES.
Abstract
INTERVIEWS OF PAROLE OFFICERS IN THE NEW YORK STATE DIVISION OF PAROLE AND A REVIEW OF AGENCY RECORDS WERE UTILIZED IN A STUDY TO DETERMINE OFFICER ATTITUDES, JOB ACTIVITY, AND DECISION-ACTION INFORMATION. RESULTS SHOWED RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PAROLE OFFICER ORIENTATIONS, THEIR BACKGROUND ATTITUDES, PART-TIME WORK, AND TECHNICAL VIOLATION WARRANT ISSUANCE RATE. THE FINDINGS SUPPORT THE IDEA THAT AN OFFICER'S VIEW OF DEVIANCE PROVIDES A BASIS FOR UNDERSTANDING HIS ATTITUDES AND ACTIVITIES. BIBLIOGRAPHY
