A FILM WHICH REVIEWS RESIDENTIAL SECURITY MEASURES FOR HOMES OR APARTMENTS, COVERING SUCH POINTS AS EXTERIOR SECURITY, LIGHTING, LOCKS, WINDOWS, AND ALARMS.
Abstract
IN A STEP-BY-STEP INSPECTION OF A TYPICAL RESIDENCE, CITIZENS ARE SHOWN EXACTLY HOW TO CHECK AND EVALUATE THEIR HOUSES OR APARTMENTS FOR SECURITY. EXTERIOR SECURITY MEASURE ARE FIRST EXAMINED. SUCH FACTORS AS LANDSCAPING OR FENCES WHICH MAY OFFER CONCEALMENT TO A BURGLAR, AND TREES OR LAWN ARTICLES WHICH MAY AID IN ENTERING A YARD OR HOUSE ARE DEMONSTRATED. THE IMPORTANCE OF EXTERIOR LIGHTING AND PROPER LOCK ON GARAGES AND STORAGE BUILDINGS IS STRESSED. THE FILM THEN EXAMINES SECURITY MEASURES FOR ENTRANCES, SUCH AS NON-REMOVABLE DOOR HINGES, BOLT LOCKS, SOLID CONSTRUCTION, AND DOOR VIEWERS. IT IS EMPHASIZED THAT WINDOWS ARE A PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE POINT IN HOME SECURITY, AND LOCKING DEVICES FOR DOUBLE-HUNG, LOUVERED, OR SLIDING WINDOWS ARE SUGGESTED. ADDITIONAL SECURITY MEASURE WHICH MAY BE UNDERTAKEN, SUCH AS BURGLAR ALARMS, THE USE OF AN ESPECIALLY SECURE ROOM TO STORE VALUABLES, AND ENGRAVING IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS ON VALUABLE ITEMS ARE ALSO REVIEWED. FINALLY, PROCEDURES FOR ASSURING THE SECURITY OF THE HOME DURING VACATION OR PROLONGED ABSENCES ARE SUGGESTED. (SNI ABSTRACT)
