Abstract
A DETAILED INTRODUCTION PRESENTS THE CONTEXT IN WHICH THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN - AN EXAMINATION OF A PARTICULAR CLASSIFICATION OF CRIME IN RELATION TO THE INDIVIDUAL'S STYLE OF LIVING AND CRIMINOLOGICAL THEORY. FOLLOWING A GLOSSARY OF TERMS USED BY THE PRISON SUBCULTURE. THE NARRATOR FOCUSES ON CRIMINAL LIFE, GIVING DESCRIPTIONS OF SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES SUCH AS SAFECRACKING AND STEALING. THE ACCOUNT THEN PROCEEDS TO THE NARRATOR'S DEALINGS WITH POLICEMEN AND LAWYERS AND HIS PERCEPTIONS OF OTHER CLASSES OF OFFENDERS. TWO CHAPTERS OF THIS DOCUMENT ARE DEVOTED TO ANALYSIS OF TWO SPECIFIC CRIMES - PROSTITUTION AND CHECK OFFENSES.
