Abstract
This July 2011 newsletter from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), contains several articles on OVC's role in responding to victims of terrorism and mass violence. The first article deals with OVC's response in providing assistance to the victims of a mass shooting in Binghamton, NY in April 2009. The article highlights the different resources that provided assistance to victims: a family assistance call center; the Antiterrorism and Emergency Assistance Program; and the OVC/FBI Crime Victim Assistance Emergency Fund. The second article in the newsletter discusses the grant awarded to Pima County, AZ, under the Antiterrorism and Emergency Assistance Program following the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in 2011. The third article discusses the work of the FBI's Office for Victim Assistance, established with funding from OVC. The fourth article provides information on financial resources for victims of international terrorism. The fifth article in the newsletter provides highlights of the work of the 2011 National Crime Victims' Service Award recipients. The last article provides information for communities as they prepare to recognize the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001.
