Abstract
The field of forensic psychiatric nursing is a relatively recent addition to the specialty of psychiatric nursing. Because of this, an understanding of its terminology and scope are necessary. It is important for psychiatric nurses to understand the manner in which juveniles become identified as offenders and the types of crimes committed. To develop a framework within which to treat youthful offenders, psychiatric nurses need to be knowledgeable about theoretical models explaining adolescent behavior, risk, and protective factors surrounding juvenile behavior, psychiatric disorders in youthful offenders, and treatment options. It was the intent of this paper to explore the forensic psychiatric care of youthful offenders. References
