A DESCRIPTION OF A MICHIGAN PROGRAM IN WHICH THE OFFENDER ENTERS INTO A CONTRACT WHICH GUARANTEES HIS SERVING NO MORE THAN HIS MINIMUM SENTENCE IF HE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES CERTAIN, SPECIFIED CORRECTIONS PROGRAMS.
Abstract
INDIVIDUAL REHABILITATION PROGRAMS ARE CHOSEN UPON INCARCERATION, AND ARE TAILORED TO THE INDIVIDUAL'S PARTICULAR NEEDS. THE CONTRACT, OFFERED TO SELECTED OFFENDERS AFTER INITIAL MEDICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, ACADEMIC, AND VOCATIONAL TESTING, SPECIFIES WHICH PROGRAMS MUST BE COMPLETED, AND GUARANTEES THAT THESE PROGRAMS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO THE INMATE. THREE OF THE FIVE PAROLE BOARD MEMBERS SIGN THE CONTRACT ALSO. VIOLATIONS OF RULES WHICH COULD CAUSE CONTRACT TERMINATION ARE SPECIFIED THEREIN. IT IS FELT THAT THIS PROGRAM WILL INSTILL IN THE OFFENDER A POSITIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE ATTITUDE TOWARD REHABILITATION FROM THE OUTSET OF INCARCERATION.
