A Canadian work group examines the capabilities and transferability of the Prosecutor's Management Information System (PROMIS), focusing on its TAILORING and ON-LINE subsystems.
Abstract
The work group discusses the degree of difficulty and the time required to convert and tailor the PROMIS software to the National Work Group (NWG) model. It also reviews PROMIS operations in Canada, examines versions of PROMIS, and comments on some PROMIS features (its adaptability, portability, and documentation). The NWG finds that PROMIS is suitable for Canadian use as long as the appropriate hardware/software configuration is in place. Implementing jurisdictions must have a PROMIS manager who understands PROMIS and data processing concepts. A skilled programmer/analyst and access to both software and telecommunications personnel are needed. Under these conditions PROMIS should be operational in 9-15 months. Descriptions of the two PROMIS subsystems and the NWG model are appended.
