Abstract
The first document focuses on Korean Gangs; it starts with their historical evolution in immigrant families and includes such recent gangs as the Korea-Town Crazy's and Bulga Saris. Next the triad societies, a Chinese form of organized crime, are explained. The document traces the triads from 12th Century secret societies to their present involvement in Asian protection rackets, narcotics trafficking, prostitution, gambling, and other organized crime activities. Chinese triads also control the opium and heroin trade to the West via Amsterdam. Five criminally active triad societies presently operate in the United States; they are involved in protection rackets, narcotics trafficking, gambling, extortion, prostitution, and illegal immigration. Especially characteristic of Chinese triads is the elaborate, mystical initiation ritual into the society, which assures the allegiance and secrecy of the members. The following document emphasizes the growing threat of Asian crime gangs (Chinese triads, Chinese tongs, and Japanese Yakuza) to United States law enforcement. A short document describes the 4 T's Gang, a recently discovered Vietnamese crime organization. The final document presents physical and behavioral characteristics which help to identify members of the Japanese Yakuza society.
