READINGS ON PALESTINE AND THE ARAB ISRAELI CONFLICT EXPLORE THE HISTORY, MOTIVATIONS, AND INTERNAL CONFLICTS OF THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE STRUGGLE.
Abstract
READINGS CONCERNING PALESTINE AND THE ARAB ISRAELI CONFLICT WITH THEIR BASIS IN RESEARCH, DOCUMENTS, AND INTERVIEWS, EXAMINE THE SETTING OF THE CONFLICT, THE PALESTINE RESISTANCE MOVEMENT, AND THE PALESTINE VIEWPOINTS ON THE BLACK SEPTEMBER GROUP. THE READINGS BEGIN WITH AN OVERVIEW OF THE MIDDLE EAST AS OF JUNE 1967 AND THE EMERGENCE OF A MILITARIST JEWISH STATE. THREE ISRAELI MARXISTS ANALYZE THE PROSPECTS FOR CHANGE FROM WITHIN AND ISRAEL'S RELATIONSHIP WITH ITS ARAB NEIGHBORS. THE FATEH COMMANDO CAMPS, POLITICAL EDUCATION ACCORDING TO CONTEMPORARY THEORIES OF GUERRILLA WARFARE, AND MEDICAL PROGRAMS ESTABLISHED FOR THE REFUGEES ARE DESCRIBED. DOCUMENTS AND INTERVIEWS DIFFERENTIATE STRATEGIES AND TACTICS OF THE THREE LEADING GUERRILLA ORGANIZATIONS. AN ACCOUNT OF THE 1970 CIVIL WAR IN JORDAN AND THE ACTIVITIES OF THE BLACK SEPTEMBER GROUP CONCLUDE THE READINGS. MAPS AND PHOTOGRAPHS ARE INCLUDED. (RFC)
