This report presents the findings from an evaluation of the Parenting with Love and Limits (PLL) program implemented through the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Children's Mental Health Division.
Abstract
Highlights from the evaluation include: 75 percent of the youths and their families enrolled in the Parenting with Love and Limits (PLL) program completed the program; participants in the program generally completed treatment in 65 days on average compared to youths in other mental health and rehabilitation programs; costs of care for youths in the PLL program were significantly lower than those of other intervention programs; PLL broadened the population of youths served by the Children's Mental Health Division of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare; and youths who participated in the PLL program had a significant reduction in severe emotional and behavioral problems as measured by the Child Behavior Checklist. This report presents the findings from an evaluation of the Parenting with Love and Limits (PLL) program implemented through the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Children's Mental Health Division. The PLL is an evidence-based treatment model for young people, aged 10-17, with extreme emotional and behavioral problems. Data for the evaluation were obtained from youths involved in the program between June 14, 1999 and June 14, 2010. The evaluation found that the PLL program was successful at providing services to youths presenting with severe emotional and behavioral problems and at improving the extent of family engagement in the youths' recovery. Future needs to examine the continued effectiveness of the program are discussed. Tables and figures
