The Parking Enforcement Specialist Course, approved by Florida's Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, is for nonsworn personnel of police and sheriff departments.
Abstract
Learning goals and objectives of the course parallel the law enforcement basic recruit curriculum. The 40-hour course focuses on legal, communications, patrol, vehicle operation, traffic, and interpersonal skills topics. Competency topics, learning goals, and objectives are specified for all subjects. Legal subjects include offense classification, obstruction of justice, robbery, court structure, court rules and trial procedures, subpoenas, and the Florida Crime Information Center. Traffic subjects cover traffic enforcement concepts and techniques, traffic and driver licensing laws, traffic control and direction, and accident scene management. Interpersonal skills training deals with community relations, ethnic and cultural groups, and problems of the mentally and physically handicapped. Vehicle operation training covers the vehicle driver and the police vehicle, while communications instruction focuses on courtroom demeanor and testimony and radio and telephone procedures.
