Abstract
IN THE FIRST SECTION, DEALING WITH CURRENT ISSUES IN PAROLE, SUCH TOPICS AS THE PAROLE GRANT HEARING, THE FOUNDATIONS OF MODERN PAROLE, PAROLE RELEASE DECISIONMAKING, AND THE IMPACT OF U.S. SUPREME COURT DECISIONS ON PAROLE OPERATIONS ARE INVESTIGATED. AMONG THE DECISIONMAKING ISSUES EXPLORED IN THE SECOND SECTION ARE VALUES AND THE PAROLE DECISION, THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF A SEVERITY SCALE, PAROLING POLICY GUIDELINES, AND THE USE OF STATISTICS IN PAROLE DECISION MAKING. THE FINAL TWO SECTIONS EXAMINE HOW RESEARCH IN CORRECTIONS CAN BE CONDUCTED IN THE MOST PRACTICAL WAY AND METHODS OF PRACTICALLY APPLYING THE RESULTS OF PAROLE RESEARCH.
