DISSERTATION STUDYING SOME OF THE ATTITUDES OF A SAMPLE OF PAROLEES AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THOSE ATTITUDES AND THE BACKGROUND VARIABLES USUALLY STUDIED IN PAROLE RESEARCH.
Abstract
NINETY MEN WHO WERE PAROLEES FROM ILLINOIS STATE PRISONS AND WHO HAD BEEN NOMINATED FOR A COMPENSATORY PROGRAM WERE INTERVIEWED. THE AUTHOR FOUND THAT THE RESPONDENTS SHOWED HIGHLY UNREALISTIC JOB EXPECTANCIES, DISPLAYED A VERY NEGATIVE ATTITUDE TOWARD LAWYERS AND THE COURT SYSTEM, AND EXPRESSED A STRONGLY POSITIVE ATTITUDE ABOUT THEIR PAROLE AGENTS. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT THE BEST PREDICTOR OF A PAROLEE'S HAPPINESS IS HIS EMPLOYMENT SITUATION.
