This volume profiles approximately 600 promising programs throughout the United States designed to combat or prevent violence and its causes.
Abstract
The programs are organized by general topic areas: Community Violence, Youth Violence, Family Violence, Substance Abuse, and Victims. Within each of these categories, the programs are arranged by their orientation toward prevention, enforcement, or treatment and rehabilitation. Information for each program encompasses name, address, telephone number, fax number, and Internet code for a contact person; program type; target population; setting; project startup date; information source; annual budget; sources of funding; program description; and sources for additional information. Four indexes are designed to help users find programs that relate to specific areas. Programs are indexed by title, subject matter, geographic location, and funding source. This volume is a product of Partnerships Against Violence, which is a new initiative that reflects the level of Federal cooperation and commitment needed to address the nationwide problem of violence. The programs contained in this guide draws on information stored in more than 30 Federal clearinghouses and resource centers. Included in the document are programs developed by government agencies, private foundations, religious and fraternal associations, and motivated citizens and community organizations.
