A PROGRAM DIRECTED TO THE CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS TO BE USED IN TRAINING PATROL OFFICERS TO ASSUME GREATER RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION OF CRIMINAL INCIDENTS IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM CONSISTS OF 11 UNITS: PROGRAM INTRODUCTION, RECORDING THE CRIME SCENE, INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE, CRIME SCENE PRESERVATION, CRIME SCENE PROCESSING TECHNIQUES, COLLECTING AND PROCESSING EVIDENCE, INITIAL/FOLLOWUP INVESTIGATION, REPORT WRITING, BURGLARY INVESTIGATION, ROBBERY INVESTIGATION, AND SEXUAL ASSAULT. THE INTRODUCTION PROVIDES A STATEMENT OF PROGRAM PURPOSE, A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE VARIOUS UNITS AND THE OBJECTIVES, AND A DISCUSSION OF SOLVABILITY FACTORS. EACH OF THE REMAINING PROGRAM UNITS CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS: RATIONALE -- A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE UNIT AND WHAT IT WILL DO FOR THE TRAINEE; TRAINEE LEARNING OBJECTIVES -- WHAT THE TRAINEE WILL BE ABLE TO DO AT THE END OF THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE; CONTENT OUTLINE -- PROVIDING AN OVERVIEW OF THE SUBJECT UNDER CONSIDERATION AND THE FLOW OF INFORMATION TO BE PROVIDED; ACTIVITIES FOR THE INSTRUCTOR -- SUGGESTED PROCESS-ORIENTED ALTERNATIVES FOR INSTRUCTORS TO EMPLOY; RESOURCES -- INFORMATION ESSENTIAL FOR THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE UNIT; AND EVALUATION -- AT LEAST TWO OPTIONS, INCLUDING A WRITTEN TEST AND A PERFORMANCE OPTION.
