THIS ARTICLE REVIEWS DEVELOPMENTS IN RESOURCE ALLOCATION STRATEGIES AND THE MEASUREMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF PATROL PERFORMANCE. THE WORK IS DIRFCTED SPECIFICALLY TO PERSONNEL WITHIN THE URBAN POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Abstract
INFORMATION INCLUDED IN THIS ARTICLE IS BASED ON THE EXPERIENCES OF THE EDMONTON (CANADA) POLICE DEPARTMENT IN DEVELOPING A PATROL PERFORMANCE MODEL. THOS MODEL WAS DESIGNED TO EVALUATE PATROL PERFORMANCE AND TO ILLUSTRATE THE INTERACTION OF SYSTEM INPUTS SUCH AS DEPARTMENTAL OBJECTIVES, INTERNAL INPUTS, OPERATIONAL STRATEGIES AND OUTPUTS AS INDICATED BY MEASURES OF EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS.
