EXAMINATION OF THE PERSONAL FAMILY AND SOCIAL FACTORS GOVERNING YOUTH MALADJUSTMENT, FOCUSING ON THE EFFECTS OF SOCIAL CHANGE.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR, WHOSE ANALYSIS IS FOUNDED ON LENGTHY SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE WITH JUVENILES CONVICTED OF MINOR PROPERTY OFFENSES IN ITALY, ADOPTS A PEDAGOGICAL PERSPECTIVE AND BASES HIS THEORETICAL ASSUMPTIONS ON THE CONCEPTS OF THE RELATIVITY OF NORMS AND VALUES AND OF THE INFLUENCES OF SOCIETAL EXPECTATIONS ON INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOR. THE CONFLICTS OF ADOLESCENCE, THE CHANGING ROLE AND STRUCTURE OF THE FAMILY, AND THE INADEQUACY OF THE SCHOOL IN PERFORMING ITS EDUCATIONAL FUNCTION ARE INDICATED AS DETERMINING FACTORS OF JUVENILE MALADJUSTMENT. THIS IS ALSO AGGRAVATED BY THE SOCIOECONOMIC CONTEXT WHICH OFTEN, BY REFUSING YOUTH FULL ACCESS TO THE ECONOMIC AND PRODUCTIVITY SECTORS ADDS TO THEIR FRUSTRATION AND MARGINAL SOCIAL STATUS. --IN ITALIAN.
