This guide outlines a program designed to help middle and high school students acquire conflict resolution skills that will help them deal with school-based problems through peer mediation.
Abstract
This model has been used in several school districts to resolve disputes that had the potential to lead to violence, as well as problems students experienced with regard to rumors, lost or damaged property, or threats. Following introductory chapters discussing the dynamics of conflict and the concept of peer mediation, the program guide describes procedures for organizing and implementing a school-based peer mediation program and ways to develop a resource base and a good promotional campaign. The bulk of the guide is devoted to describing core activities and ongoing support activities related to peer mediator training. 4 appendixes
