This is the penal procedure code of Bulgaria as amended through 1986. The "General Rules" of the code indicate the purposes and limits of the code's effectiveness; fundamental principles; institution, termination, and suspension of penal proceedings; the court; and the public prosecutor.
Abstract
Other major sections under the General Rules encompass organs of the preliminary investigations; participants in the penal proceedings; proofs and evidentiary materials; collection and verification of evidence; measures of procedural coercion; and the serving of summonses, notices, and papers. Part Two of the code covers "Stages of Penal Procedure." Chapters address preliminary proceedings; executive sitting; court hearing; proceedings in the second instance court for verification of the sentences; procedure of the second instance court for verifying the court rulings; revision in the order of supervision; reopening of penal cases; putting into execution of sentences, decision, and rulings that have entered into force; and special rules. Part Three pertains to "Proceedings in Connection With the Execution of Punishments' Special Proceedings." This involves such matters as prerelease, revocation of work days, interruption of imprisonment, the application of compulsory medical measures, extradition, rehabilitation, and exemption from penal responsibility with the imposition of an administrative punishment.
