DISCUSSION OF THE MAIN FEATURES OF SWEDEN'S PENAL AND CORRECTIONAL SYSTEMS AS THEY APPLY TO JUVENILES AND ADULTS.
Abstract
REFORM LEGISLATION, THE CHILD WELFARE ACT AND THE PENAL CODE, WHICH SYSTEMATIZED AND CONSOLIDATED EARLIER LEGISLATION, IS DESCRIBED TO ENCOURAGE COMPARISONS. CHILD WELFARE BOARDS AND NOT JUVENILE COURTS HANDLE CHILDREN. THE PROCESS BY WHICH THE PENAL CODE WAS ENACTED IS BRIEFLY DESCRIBED. PUNISHMENTS PROVIDED IN THE CODE ARE FINES AND IMPRISONMENT. OTHER SANCTIONS ARE CONDITIONAL SENTENCE, PROBATION, YOUTH IMPRISONMENT, PREVENTIVE DETENTION, AND INTERNMENT. PAROLE AND THE COMMITMENT OF JUVENILES, ALCOHOLICS, AND MENTALLY ILL OR ABNORMAL FOR SPECIAL TREATMENT IS MENTIONED. 18 REFERENCES
