MEDICAL PERSONNEL IN FRENCH CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS ARE UNABLE TO CARRY OUT THEIR NOMINAL FUNCTION OF PROVIDING RESOCIALIZATION TREATMENT FOR INMATES BECAUSE OF THE AUTOCRATIC AND TOTALITARIAN ORGANIZATION OF THE PRISONS.
Abstract
THE REAL FUNCTION OF THE TREATMENT PERSONNEL IS TO PROVIDE A PSEUDO-SCIENTIFIC JUSTIFICATION FOR THE INSTITUTION AND TO SUPPLEMENT SECURITY METHODS. ALTHOUGH THE TREATMENT PERSONNEL ARE UNABLE TO CHARGE THE PRISON SYSTEM AS IT IS PRESENTLY ORGANIZED, THEY CAN SERVE THE FUNCTION OF PROVIDING METHODS OF ADJUSTING FOR INMATES AND LOWER-LEVEL SECURITY PERSONNEL WHO ARE VICTIMIZED BY THE OPPRESSIVE AND INADEQUATE INSTITUTIONAL ORGANIZATION. THEY CAN ALSO FUNCTION AS A DISSENTING VOICE TO PREVENT COMPLETE MONOPOLIZATION BY THE POINTS OF VIEW WHICH PERPETUATE THE PRESENT SYSTEM. --IN FRENCH
