Abstract
ELEMENTS OF THE NEW ORDINANCE CONCERN FOUR MAJOR CATEGORIES: TREATMENT; ALTERNATIVES TO INCARCERATION; JURISDICATION; AND VOLUNTARISM. THE FOCUS OF THIS ARTICLE IS ON THE FINAL ELEMENT. THE LAW PROVIDES FOR THE USE OF VOLUNTEERS IN THE AREAS OF INMATE ASSISTANCE AND INSTRUCTION; SPECIFIC TYPES OF INTERVENTION IN WHICH VOLUNTEERS COULD PARTICIPATE INCLUDE CORRESPONDENCE COURSE INSTRUCTION OR INDIVIDUAL TUTORING; ADMISSION TO WORK ON THE OUTSIDE; CULTURAL, RECREATIONAL, OR ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES; FAMILY RELATIONS; PROBATION; SEMILIBERTY; CARE FOR EXPECTANT AND NEWLY DELIVERED MOTHERS AND THEIR INFANTS IN THE PRISON NURSERIES ('ASILI NIDO'); PRISON LIBRARY SERVICES; ASSISTANCE TO DETAINED OR INCARCERATED FOREIGNERS; NOTICE OF INMATE ILLNESS OR DEATH AND ORGANIZATION OF CONFERENCES AND SPECIAL EVENTS.
