This strategy details the anticipated use of funds for continuation of State and local projects which were awarded during the past 2 years.
Abstract
These projects fall under two major categories; county corrections projects with an emphasis on reducing jail crowding and providing needed treatment and supervision services to drug-dependent offenders. New State funds are being used to support new project activity in the areas of drug abuse prevention and education, treatment, and law enforcement. The success with interagency coordination in the drug area will continue to be built upon. This strategy addresses the cooperative work between such agencies as the Office of Drug and Alcohol Programs (treatment), Department of Education (prevention/education), Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (criminal justice), and the Governor's Drug Policy Council. The Commonwealth will continue to place significant emphasis on a number of areas such as drug testing, street-level enforcement, the concept of user accountability, and the movement toward intermediate punishment for nonviolent drug offenders.
