THIS DOCUMENT REPORTS AND DISCUSSES THE RESPONSES OF 74 CORRECTIONAL AGENCIES TO EIGHT QUESTIONS ON THE EFFECTS OF RESEARCH ON OPERATIONS, INFLUENTIAL KINDS OF RESEARCH AND AVAILABILITY OF RESEARCH RESOURCES.
Abstract
THE SURVEY SHOWED THAT MOST AGENCIES FELT THAT RESEARCH HAD A MODERATE IMPACT ON IMPROVING AGENCY OPERATIONS. RESEARCH WAS MOST BENEFICIAL IN DEVELOPING NEW PROGRAMS, PLANNING, AND IMPROVING EXISTING PROGRAMS. MOST OF THE USEFUL RESEARCH FINDING ORIGINATED FROM IN-HOUSE UNITS. ADULT AGENCIES FOUND RESEARCH ON PLANNING, MANAGEMENT, AND DESCRIPTIVE BASELINE DATA TO BE MOST USEFUL, WHILE YOUTH AGENCIES FOUND STUDIES DEALING WITH CLASSIFICATION, TREATMENT, AND TREATMENT SUCCESS TO BE MOST VALUABLE. DATA ON THE PERSONNEL, AND BUDGET OF CORRECTIONAL AGENCY RESEARCH UNITS WAS ALSO OBTAINED....DMC
