This handbook instructs laypersons and security executives in techniques and procedures for preventing crimes against individuals and organizations, such as robberies, burglary, pickpocketing, kidnapping, and hostage-taking.

Abstract

It recommends formal and informal security measures and methods for inventory security. These include alarms and alarm systems; physical barriers; cameras; security guards; guard dogs; construction, apparel, and related protection; and miscellaneous security equipment. Informal security measures cover the personal transport of valuables, travel routes and means, information dissemination, and awareness of relevant information. Inventory security measures address theft and industrial espionage. Measures encompass employee screening and searches, recordkeeping, and employees' access to inventory. Possible countermeasures against security systems are also reviewed. Separate chapters cover protective materials, response tactics, and computer and data processing security. Supplementary materials include a true-false test on handbook material, a security planning checklist, security forms, and a directory of security-related companies. Subject index.
