HISTORY OF TERRORISM AND EVALUATION OF CURRENT CASES IN RUSSIA, IRELAND, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY.
Abstract
AFTER DEFINING THE CONCEPT AND GENERAL SURVEY OF PAST AND PRESENT TERRORISM, THE AUTHOR DEALS WITH SUCH MANIFESTATIONS AS INDIVIDUAL TERRORISM, GROUP ATTACKS, STATE ORDERED ASSASSINATIONS AND APPROVED MURDERS, BOMB TERROR, ARSON, KIDNAPPING, AIRCRAFT HIJACKING, AND BANK ROBBERY. THIS IS FOLLOWED BY A CRIMINOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF CASES IN RUSSIA, IRELAND, USA, THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY AND OTHER COUNTRIES. IN THE LAST PART OF THE ARTICLE THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THREE ASPECTS WHICH MAY INFLUENCE THE TERRORISTS' DECISION TO KILL: THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TERRORIST AND HIS OFTEN UNKNOWN VICTIM; SHARED RESPONSIBILITY WHICH EASES THE CONSCIENCE; AND THE INCAPABILITY OF THE OFFENDER TO IMAGINE THE CONSEQUENCES OF HIS ACTIONS. THE ARTICLE CONCLUDES WITH SUGGESTIONS FOR PREVENTING AND FIGHTING TERRORISM. --IN GERMAN...PO
