EXAMINATION OF PERSONNEL PRACTICES OF AGENCIES USING THE VOLUNTEER POLICE OFFICER.
Abstract
THE SELECTION, TRAINING AND UTILIZATION OF THESE VOLUNTEERS ARE EXAMINED IN DETAIL. ALSO EXPLORED ARE ANY CHANGES IN THESE AREAS THAT MAY BE OCCURRING OR ARE LIKELY TO OCCUR IN THE FUTURE. THE ORIGINAL RESEARCH CONSISTED OF EXTENSIVE FIELD OBSERVATIONS WITH SOME NINETEEN WESTERN POLICE AND SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENTS, A MAILED QUESTIONNAIRE WITH ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-ONE DEPARTMENTS RESPONDING AND PERSONAL PERFORMANCE OF THE POLICE SKILLS TO DETERMINE THE ASPECTS NEEDED TO ANALYZE PERSONNEL POLICIES. WHILE AT SAN JOSE, FURTHER RESEARCH WITH MANY DEPARTMENTS, AND IN PARTICULAR THE PACIFICA POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN UNDERTAKEN.
