This anthology of studies provides a multidisciplinary synthesis of contemporary knowledge about youth throughout the world.
Abstract
Part 1 contains studies on the state of sociological, psychological, and literary work on youth. Each of the three studies is a synthesis of the available knowledge on youth from a particular disciplinary perspective. Part 2 presents three studies that provide general perspectives on contemporary youth problems. One paper identifies general tendencies that influence aspects of the development of the symbolism, ideology, and consciousness of youth. Another paper reviews historical trends in youth's attitudes toward and assimilation of tradition. The concluding paper in Part 2 focuses on the current context of youth in economical, political, and societal development. Part 3 consists of six case studies of youth development in various regions and countries: Africa, Latin America, Europe, Japan, the Middle East (Muslim societies), and India. Chapter notes.
