EVALUATION OF A PROGRAM DESIGNED TO PROVIDE INNER CITY YOUTH IN PHILADELPHIA WITH ACCESS TO AGENCIES, INSTITUTIONS AND PROGRAMS PROVIDING YOUTH-RELATED RESOURCES AND SERVICES.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM WAS INITIATED TO ASSIST IN THE CONTROL OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AND GANG VIOLENCE BY PROVIDING CONSTRUCTIVE OUTLETS SUCH AS VOCATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE PROJECT GOALS, THE ACADEMY WAS ESTABLISHED PROVIDING VOCATIONAL TRAINING IN EIGHT JOB SKILLS, EDUCATIONAL COUNSELING, AND JOB REFERRALS. DATA COLLECTED BY THE PROJECT STAFF WERE ASSESSED IN TERMS OF OPERATIONAL GOALS TO MEASURE PROJECT PROGRESS. THE PROGRAM OF THE NORTH CENTRAL YOUTH ACADEMY WAS FOUND TO HAVE EXCEEDED OBJECTIVES IN NUMBER OF YOUTHS ENROLLED, VOCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES CREATED, AND JOB REFERRALS COMPLETED.
