THIS PROGRAM DEALS WITH THREE ASPECTS OF PHYSICAL EVIDENCE - THE LEGAL RESTRICTIONS GOVERNING IT, THE WAYS IN WHICH IT IS USED, AND THE TECHNIQUES FOR FINDING, COLLECTING, PRESERVING AND RECORDING IT.
Abstract
THE LEGAL SECTION CLASSIFIES EVIDENCE AS TESTIMONIAL, DOCUMENTARY, AND PHYSICAL ON ONE HAND AND AS DIRECT OR CIRCUMSTANTIAL ON THE OTHER. IT THEN DEALS WITH THE SUBJECTS OF ADMISSIBILITY AND WEIGHT. THE PRINCIPAL USES DISCUSSED ARE - (1) WAYS IN WHICH FINDING ONE ITEM OF EVIDENCE CAN PROVIDE LEADS TO OTHER ITEMS, (2) METHODS OF ESTABLISHING A CORPUS DELICTI, (3) EVIDENCES OF IDENTITY, AND (4) PROOF OF OPPORTUNITY. THE TECHNIQUES OF SEARCHING, COLLECTING, AND PRESERVING ARE EXPLAINED IN DETAIL. THE IMPORTANCE OF RECORDING EACH STEP IS STRESSED, AND GREAT EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON THE VITAL NECESSITY OF KEEPING RECORDS THAT WILL CONNECT EACH LINK IN THE CHAIN OF CUSTODY. AN INSTRUCTOR'S GUIDE DESCRIBES THE MATERIALS PROVIDED, EQUIPMENT NEEDED, PROJECTOR AND RECORDER ACCESSORIES, MAINTENANCE OF EQUIPMENT AND SUGGESTED WAYS TO USE THE PROGRAM.
