Abstract
The relationship between lifestyle and fitness is considered as it relates to cardiovascular health, hypertension, nutrition, weight control and smoking. Guidelines are provided for the prevention and treatment of injury, including soreness, cramps, strains, sprains, and back pain. In addition to providing exercises for warmup, stretching, and flexibility, issues of intensity, duration, frequency, and mode of engaging in a variety of aerobic exercises are addressed. Exercises considered include walking, jogging and running, swimming, bicycling and stationary cycling, rowing, rope skipping, cross-country skiing, and indoor ski exercises. Finally, the contributions of weight training and calisthenics to muscular strength and endurance are discussed. Weightlifting guidelines are offered, and a variety of exercises are discussed and illustrated. Forms for requesting an individualized fitness plan and for the fitness plan itself are included.
