Personal computers (PC's) serve a variety of functions in physical security.
Abstract
As part of a total security system, the PC can annunciate alarms, log events, show diagrams of areas, produce reports for maintenance action, approve access, and encipher line security. PC's also can control automatic remote testing of sensors, integrate functions, and aid in security analysis and planning. More advanced applications of PC's include decision analysis, expert systems, and multiple tasking. The computer provides a simpler, more effective, and cheaper alternative to previous manual systems. Further, improvements in technology have produced and will continue to produce improvements in software and hardware that will greatly increase potential applications while lowering costs. 7 references.
