RESULTS OF A STUDY OF 103 PINS CHILDREN WHICH SOUGHT TO DETERMINE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CHILD AND HIS FAMILY; THE TREATMENT PROGRAM; AND OUTCOMES SUCH AS SUBSEQUENT LAW VIOLATIONS OR PINS PETITIONS.
Abstract
THE SAMPLE OF 103 CHILDREN WAS COMPOSED OF BOTH MALE AND FEMALE PINS FROM 7 TO 16 YEARS OF AGE WHOSE NEW PETITIONS WERE ENTERED AT FAMILY COURT DURING THE MONTHS OF MARCH, JULY, AND OCTOBER FOR EACH YEAR BEGINNING WITH 1968 AND ENDING WITH 1973. INFORMATION COLLECTED INCLUDED NAME, AGE, SEX, RACE, ADDRESS, PETITION ORIGINATOR, PAST OR PRESENT OFFENSES WITHIN THE CHILD'S IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND CASE DISPOSITIONS. THE INTAKE CHARACTERISTICS, FAMILY BACKGROUND, AND JUVENILE PROCESSING STAGES SUCH AS DIAGNOSIS, REFERRALS, AND PLACEMENTS ARE ANALYZED. A DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHENECTADY COUNTY COURT INTERVENTION PROCESS FOR PINS AND THE FINDINGS OF A NEW YORK CITY PINS SAMPLE SELECTED FROM A POPULATION IN WHICH ALL HAD RECEIVED PLACEMENT ARE ALSO PRESENTED.
